Carre - firstly, thank you so much for sharing - especially given some of the sentiment, it can’t have been easy.

I do think you’re very brave and the fact that you were vindicated (legally) supports the notion of art as expression and the right to freely express your thoughts / feelings , so fully support your right to express yourself as an artist, as you see fit (there’s a whole load of rabbit holes I could go down about censorship by others & self censorship- but you can probably work out my view!!) At the end of the day you are merely (I don’t mean that in a derogatory / pejorative way) expressing your feelings - not sure anyone tried to sue a painter, sculptor etc.

I also wonder if there’s also something here about age influencing you? I loved being a bratty teen / 20 something and was very opinionated / arrogant and had little / no filter but as I got older I considered consequences and self reflection - now this could be a good thing (I think I’m a nicer person now!) but there’s a line between age related reflection and feeling unable to communicate your true self.

Keep pulling at those threads, keep working it out (on record, live, on here, in a book, in a painting - whatever works for you) and keep on being the brave artist your fans recognise and take inspiration from! We have your back and no pressure - it’s a Journey right? No one is the same …. Take time for yourself, don’t overthink it and don’t be too hard on yourself!!!!

Take care & keep at it 💪🏼

Your point about age is spot-on. I feel as though I’ve aged ten years in the last two and with that I’ve become a calmer, less reactive and more reflective person. I’m nicer too :) But, as you said, there is a fine line between this and feeling unable to express my true self when it matters. I find that the latter is happening when I’m motivated by fear. Fear itself is a relatively new hindrance for me. Maybe that’s age-related too.

I love your body of work for its 'rawness' which also transfers into your stage performances. Not a lot of artists have the balls to let go and to just do that. In a world of music and entertainment that is so formatted, you are truly a breath of fresh air. Keep doing what you do so well, I'll keep listening and I'll keep reading. x

Writing like this can be helpful. I did it after the death of my mom and dad. I'm still the outspoken person, abrasive at times, and have been most of my life. The past 5 years, I've found myself becoming a bit of a misanthrope. Not the healthiest way to be, but that's reality. You've always been ballsie in your performances and your recordings, and this journey you're embarking on just reinforces you're ballsieness. It isn't a walk in the park being open about yourself. It's understandable feeling like you've lost your voice, especially being so many are verbally attacked for expressing the most mundane opinion, about a mundane topic, let alone if it's a serious topic. It may be an insular way of thinking but the only people that matter are you, your family, friends, and whoever you're swapping spit with! The rest don't matter at all. If those people in your life are supportive and add joy to your life, you're doing well! The case regarding your lyrics was just ridiculous! That's why you won! You seem like you're a fighter, and you're fighting, still in it and you're never outta the fight! Fight on! Or in this case, write on!

I'm also embarking on a writing journey and it's incredibly freaky/difficult/unnatural/exposing for an Aquarian moon such as myself so it is comforting and refreshing to see an artist I admire so much be open about their struggle with their voice too.
