Carre!! You should write a book! Your storytelling style is really expressive and you’ve certainly had a far from ordinary upbringing!!

I love the reference to the musicians - Germs were my go to band for a long time and your description of the club brings to mind the Canterbury of LA on the 80’s and some of those early punk clubs!

Thanks for sharing the song also - wow, some really adult themes there for a young voice! I think lyrically it’s a real insight into your early songwriting - you maintain that fluidity to this day and are not afraid to tackle the hard subjects but damn, what a reflection on your environment (“out of the mouths of babes” indeed!)

Thanks again for your openness, insight and vulnerability and seriously, there’s a very good book in there somewhere!!

PS - cannot wait to see what the first 2 CDs were!!

Take care

Hey Carre - I can really recommend “Lexicon Devil - the fast times and short life of Darby Crash” - written by Brendan Mullen who ran / owned The Masque club in LA - lots of cool insight into The Canterbury, also John Doe from the band X wrote a cool book “under the big black sun” as he and Exene lived there! Lastly if you can find a copy, Penelope Spheeris excellent film “the decline of western civilisation “ has load of 80s LA punk bands and most of the in between songs bits were filmed at the Canterbury -(Darby cooking eggs scene is hysterical! And pre Rollins Black Flag also very funny ) enjoy! Xx

Damn. This was good. I lived in Colorado for 20 years and got to experience the last few years of Rock Island before it got turned into office space. I love hearing these stories of old Denver. I'm really enjoying your writing and your voice. I can't wait for more!!

Crazy how much Denver has changed. Glad you enjoyed it. Recalling and writing about all of this stuff is a bittersweet experience.

Wow. A billion light years from my childhood…same era though. I (embarrassingly) was singing and dancing to Spice Girls with hairbrushes under a tree in the school sports field…always was baby spice, until I discovered incubus at 14 and flipped 180.

Love David Bowie though. Many attempts to make myself look like the Jareth or Aladdin sane at various fancy dress!

David’s mum was from Tunbridge wells where I’m from in Kent and his parents went on one of their first dates at the old cinema next to my office !

I've recently started to get into the Spice Girls! Haha. I also loved Robbie Williams when I was a kid.
